A microbial ecologist by training, Michael obtained his B.Sc from the University of Guelph and his M.Sc and Ph.D. from KU Leuven (Belgium). He strives to understand the complex interactions occurring within microbial communities and seeks to unravel their influences on the environments they live in. Besides his lifelong curiosity about the living world, Michael spends his time cooking, painting, and trying to sleep through his Boston Terrier's snoring
