Microbial Monitoring – a Hot Topic at Canadian National Conference on Drinking Water

Access to clean and plentiful drinking water is important to each of us. The Canadian National Conference on Drinking Water, taking place October 16-18 in Ottawa, brings together top researchers to share innovative ideas about drinking water sustainability and solutions to common water issues from across Canada and around the world.

Microbial monitoring in source water is one of the highlights of this year’s conference program, with the agenda also covering topics like small water system operation, maintaining water quality through treatment and distribution and optimizing treatment processes.

Microbial monitoring will be explored by speakers including Dr. Graham Gagnon, the NSERC/Halifax Water Industrial Research Chair at Dalhousie University. LuminUltra is one of several industrial partners supporting Dr. Gagnon’s research chair, and we’re looking forward to learning more about Dr. Gagnon’s thinking on this topic, as well as drinking water safety plans and biological treatment for manganese removal from drinking water. He has authored more than 85 peer-reviewed journal articles and taken part in 200 conference proceedings. Dr. Gagnon is also the Director for the Centre for Water Resources Studies, the focal point for applied water research in Atlantic Canada.

Among other speakers at the event are individuals at the forefront of research and development in the drinking water industry, including Dr. Michèle Prévost,  the Industrial  Chair  on Drinking  Water  of  the  Natural  Sciences  and  Engineering  Council  of  Canada  (NSERC)  at the  Department  of  Civil  Engineering  of  Polytechnique  Montreal. Her work on source protection, water treatment and various aspects of distribution systems has been widely recognized in the field of water science. As well, Michael Schock from the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Supply and Water Resources Division will also be speaking about his experiences over the past three decades conducting field research into drinking water treatment issues.

At LuminUltra, we recognize the importance of gathering people together from across our industry to talk about water quality. That’s why we attend and support the Canadian National Conference on Drinking Water as a silver sponsor.  We know that through research and innovation, our products and services will continue to provide our clients with answers to their important water questions.
