Water vs. Climate Change

Recently, the United Nations held a conference in Morocco related to climate change issues. The location of the conference had significant meaning because Africa has become a bellwether for the rest of the world when it comes to climate change. Desertification and rising sea levels both impact countries all over that continent.

Water scarcity is another continent-wide problem. So much so that conference organizers devoted an entire day to water issues. However, attendees didn’t focus on water as a casualty of climate change; rather they recognized how important a tool water can be in mitigating the effects of climate change.

Benedito Braga, President of the World Water Council, said in a press release that, “While humanity experiences increasing demographic and socioeconomic stresses, recent episodes of extreme climate around the world bring additional complexities in finding solutions to reduce these stresses. Water is one of the most impacted resources, but water also provides solutions to these challenges.”

It’s an interesting idea, water as a climate change weapon not a victim. In certain areas, hydroelectric power has already offset “dirtier” forms of energy generation. Tidal generation and water energy storage also hold great promise.

Water-reliant industries have a part to play as well, through the careful management of water usage. That’s where we come in at LuminUltra. Our focus is on helping our clients around the globe solve their microbiological water issues so their water processes run as efficiently as possible. Whether your focus is equipment maintenance, water quality or process control, we can help.
