This two-part webinar series with LANXESS and Luminultra, co-presented by LANXESS Energy Technology Fellow, Ken Wunch, Ph.D. and Luminultra Market Development Director, Marc Demeter, Ph.D. explores practical, science-based strategies for microbial risk mitigation and biocide optimization in oil and gas operations. Together, the sessions provide a comprehensive framework for understanding microbial risks throughout the well lifecycle—from source water to the reservoir—and applying effective, data-driven treatment strategies.
Part one focuses on reservoir-focused microbial risk mitigation, examining how microorganisms are introduced during hydraulic fracturing and why protecting the reservoir requires more than topside control. Through real-world case studies, you will learn how to identify microbial risks, establish meaningful KPIs and use diagnostic tools—including culture methods, ATP, qPCR and NGS—to guide treatment decisions and improve long-term asset integrity.
Building on that foundation, part two takes a deeper look at the mechanics of biocide applications. You will gain practical insight into how commonly used oilfield biocides work, how different chemistries interact with microbial systems and how to optimize biocide selection for specific operating conditions. The session also explores biocide selection studies (“kill studies”), including how to design them, interpret results and apply findings to improve treatment performance and reduce operational risk.
