Hello, everyone!
If we haven’t met yet, I’m Marc Demeter. For over a decade, I’ve been chasing microbes across the oil and gas industry. Yes, microbes! Those tiny bacteria or “bugs” that, under the right conditions, can cause big problems in pipelines, tanks, wells, and even reservoirs themselves.
Throughout my career, I’ve tackled critical microbial issues such as wellbore souring (H₂S production), biofouling and microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). My focus has always been more than just identifying issues; it’s about partnering with stakeholders to solve them.
I’ve seen how collaboration leads to real results. Sometimes that means aligning on terminology so we’re all speaking the same language. Other times, it’s selecting the right testing technology to answer specific industry questions. And often, it’s rolling up my sleeves to help – like mapping out field surveys, or helping evaluate biocide programs.
No matter the scale or complexity of the challenge, I’m always eager to navigate these challenges alongside our clients.
That’s why I’m so energized by this new role as Director of Market Development. It gives me the freedom to engage directly with our clients. Think of me as your go-to-guy – someone ready to lend support, clarify and collaborate on the microbial challenges that matter most.
You might already know me as the lead instructor for our Polytechnic program – Luminultra’s hub for oilfield learning. I’m proud of what we’ve built to help the industry think critically about microbial risks and how to use testing to drive data-informed decision-making. In November, Polytechnic will be hosted in Denver, CO. Learn more about the upcoming training.
In this new role, I’ll be sharing even more real-world insights with a broader audience. Over the coming months, I’m launching a blog series focused on microbial risks in the oilfield. I’ll break down key concepts, challenge common myths, and share practical advice.
